Caracal: A Chronicle of Our Journey So Far

In this era of the new normal, any business entity that attempts to dig its feet into the new reality thrust upon it by the unexpected emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, and still stands firm, such a company is deserving of accolades.

For Caracal, with a mission to be West Africa’s leading indigenous provider of offshore support vessel and services -both in market share and service reputation, it is gradually writing its success story in the sands of time, while climbing the ladder, rung after rung, towards attaining its desired height of accomplishments.

Looking at Caracal’s chronicle of achievements over its 7 years journey so far, more accomplishments are not too far off.

  • 2013: Caracal was established as an offshore oilfield solutions group of companies with a world-class operating standard.
  • 2014: Caracal completed all regulatory compliance and began operations. It also signed multiple technical services agreements with vessel providers.
  • 2015: Saw to the provision of accommodation vessel -the Bonga Reclassification Project. Provided the Platform Support Vessel and Bunkers to support drilling operations, with the Aje Field Drilling Operations. In the same year, it achieved a 100% Junior Crew compliance.
  • 2016: the era of the EGINA Project started with the provision of Transportation & Logistics Supports Services (PSV) – towage of cargo barges, and other sundry services required by the client.

Then, there was the provision of Transportation & Logistics Supports Services (FSIV) – transportation to the worksite of in-field personnel transfer, luggage, small boxes, and project equipment.

During this period, Caracal achieved 50% Mid-Level Nigerian Crew in line with Company & Local content compliance strategy.

  • 2017: the EGINA Project continued. This time, it was operating at 50% Nigerian Crew Complement. After that, Caracal became Trace certified, then joined IMCA-International Marine Contractors Association, before initiating the process of delivering 2 Nigerian Flagged vessels within the Caracal Fleet.

 The provision of Transportation & Logistics Supports Services (2 FSIVs) followed. That is the transportation to the worksite of in-field personnel transfer, luggage, small boxes, and project equipment.

Also in 2017, the ODUDU Project was birthed with the provision of Transportation & Logistics Support Services (PSV) – to support Odudu Field coil tubing operations.

  • 2018: this period began the West African expansion to Ghana, Angola, and Mauritius; while achieving 85% Nigerian crew complement on vessels operating in-country.

Then comes the TOTAL JV Operations, with the provision of Transportation & Logistics Support Services (PSV) to support Total JV operations –cargo transport services, passenger transport services, oil spillage clearance, fire-fighting and safety standby services.

The EGINA Project also continued with the provision of Service Tug (AHTS), for towage of cargo barges, and other sundry services required by the client. Afterwards, it followed with the provision of Transportation & Logistics Support Services (FCB) – transportation to the worksite of in-field personnel, luggage, small boxes, and project equipment.

  • 2019: still on the EGINA Project, the provision of Transportation & Logistics Supports Services (one FSIV) – transportation to the worksite of in-field personnel transfer, luggage, small boxes, and project equipment.

After, it saw to the provision of Transportation & Logistics Supports Services (PSV) – towage of cargo barges, and other sundry services required by the client. Then the provision of Transportation & Logistics Supports Services (two FSIVs) – transportation to the worksite of in-field personnel transfer, luggage, small boxes, and project equipment.

  • 2019: The Akpo Project was activated, which focused on the provision of Transportation & Logistics Support Services (FCB) – transportation to worksite of in-field personnel, luggage, small boxes, and project equipment.
  • 2019: the Shell EA Project followed, which provided Transportation & Logistics Support Services (PSV) to support SPDC EA Field operations – cargo transport services, passenger transport services, anchor handling, towing, diving support, hydrographic, seismic, mooring, berthing, and safety standby duties.
  • 2020: Akpo Project continued, with the provision of Transportation & Logistics Support Services (FCB) – transportation to the worksite of in-field personnel, luggage, small boxes, and project equipment.

Other projects for 2020 include:

  • OML 83 & 85 Project

Provision of Transportation & Logistics Support Services (PSV) to support client offshore field operations – cargo transport services, passenger transport services, firefighting support, rescue and recovery support, offshore installation support, waste disposal support and standby duties.

  • Escravos Project

Provision of Transportation & Logistics Support Services (FCB) – transportation to the worksite of in-field personnel, luggage, small boxes, and project equipment.

  • Shell EA Project

Provision of Transportation & Logistics Support Services (PSV) to support SPDC EA Field operations – cargo transport services, passenger transport services, anchor handling, towing, diving support, hydrographic, seismic, mooring, berthing, and safety standby duties.

Despite this series of achievements, Caracal’s vision to bring world-class operating standards to support offshore West African oil and gas operators, remains stronger and keeps gaining more grounds.
